The ABC's of Travertine

Travertine stone is one of the most beautiful products that a homeowner can use today when remodeling their home.  The main distinction between Travertine and other natural stones is that it is created in limestone caves and hot springs.  A prominent characteristic of Travertine are the holes that are found within the stone.  This unique physical presentation is caused by the releasing of carbon dioxide.  Just about all of the Travertine out there is import from Turkey.

Characteristics

Most people use Travertine pavers to remodel their driveway, patio, pool deck, and walkways.  Travertine tile, which is the thinner of the two,  is used for mostly indoor projects.  The tiles are 0.5 inches in their thickness and the pavers are 1.25 inches in their thickness.  As far as the colors go, here are some of the popular ones that are used today:  Walnut, Dark Brown, Beige, Gold, and Ivory.  Of course, these are just a few and there are many color combinations that can be used.

Travertine comes in many different sizes.  A travertine french pattern contains:  1 piece 16" x 24", 1 piece 16" x 8", 2 pieces 16" x 16", 2 pieces 8" x 8".  Travertine also comes in jumbo sizes:  18" x 18", 18" x 24", 24" x 24", 24" x 36".  Travertine pool tile comes in 4"x 4" and 6"x 6".  The most popular size is 6"x 12".

Uses

Travertine stone has been used for a very long time.  Ancient civilizations such as the Romans and Greeks, used this product on an extensive basis.  They used it from their sculptures and monuments to their buildings and walkways.  Even the great amphitheaters used travertine back in the day.  Today, homeowners use it as well for a wide variety of areas.  Here is a common list for inside jobs:  bathrooms, showers, countertops, fireplaces, sinks, and stairs.  Here is a common list for outside jobs:  pool decks, driveways, patios, walkways, home walls, and outdoor fireplaces.  In addition, homeowners also use Travertine for their pool remodeling jobs.  Travertine bullnose copings are used with either a single or double rounded off side.  Homeowners also use Travertine medallions for wall decorations or floor center pieces.  This truly makes a visual impact.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a durable and extremely beautiful product for your home renovation project, then look no further than Travertine stone.  It will give you that amazing look no matter if you use it on your driveway, patio, pool deck, or walkway.
